Because of ongoing changes in the Israeli poultry industry, more and more farms have moved to areas which suffer from greater temperature extremes than those found in the center of the country. This change presents a serious environmental challenge to the industry, namely how to raise the birds using a minimum of electricity and feed. The ventilation system most commonly used here, ON-OFF ventilation, does not provide the required flexibility.
